Missing children site partners with LifeLock

LifeLock : 19 August, 2009  (Company News)
Web alliance intended to help protect American young people from the growing problem of adolescent identity theft
An identity thief on the prowl for someone's personal information is looking for a quick and easy target, and many times the most vulnerable targets are children. In 2008, more than 20,500 identity theft complaints were filed with the Federal Trade Commission on behalf of individuals under the age of 19. LifeLock is partnering with InstantAmber, a Web-based information clearinghouse that assists law enforcement in missing child emergencies, to help keep America's youth safe.

Through the partnership, LifeLock's comprehensive identity theft protection services will be available on InstantAmber's main Web site. Users who click through to purchase LifeLock's services from this site will also be eligible for a discount.

"Children are easy targets for identity thieves, as it can go unnoticed for many years," said Steve McGrady, LifeLock Vice President of Partner Sales. "The partnership with InstantAmber will provide an avenue for families to help protect their children from this ever-growing crime."

According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft and identity fraud complaints have increased from 230,000 in 2000, to more than 1.2 million in 2008, costing Americans more than $1.8 billion annually. Missing children are also an epidemic that plagues society; more than 1,000,000 children are reported missing a year.

"LifeLock's Identity Theft Protection system offers consumers invaluable protection against a problem that claims more and more victims every day. We share the common vision of protecting families from dangers, seen and unseen, and are extremely pleased to join LifeLock as a partner in this mission," said Matt Berman, CEO and Founder of InstantAmber.
