Qinetiq : 23 July, 2012  (Sponsored Features)
QinetiQ have had their state-of-the-art training and innovation centre in Farnborough opened by the MP for Aldershot
Minister Opens Innovative Training and Simulation Centre
Gerald Howarth, MP for Aldershot, and Minister for International Security Strategy at the Ministry of Defence, has opened the new QinetiQ Training Innovations facility on their headquarters site at Farnborough, Hampshire

Hosted by QinetiQ Group CEO Leo Quinn, the Minister unveiled a plaque commemorating the event, and toured the new facility. He was shown the huge range of training and simulation capabilities that QinetiQ use to support Defence in the development of distributed synthetic Air and Land training packages, and non-military applications such as safety critical training modules such as those simulating mining incidents, already in use in Australia.

He met a number of the Training and Simulation Services team members working on across a range  of ground breaking developments who were able to demonstrate their domain knowledge, experience, technological innovation and the training processes suitable for providing cutting edge expertise in today’s demanding environments to military commanders.

The Minister was able to see how the appropriate application of cutting edge training and simulation technologies could  improve training quality, enhance performance, reduce costs, minimise the environmental impact of live training, retaining the high quality outputs for commanders whilst also derisking the design and delivery of the training solution. He also saw how capturing military and commercial training requirements through proven training needs analysis, optimised the procurement process.

Mr Howarth said "I am pleased to have been invited to open this new facility which brings together cutting edge commercial off-the-shelf technology and military simulators under one roof. This represents a good investment in the high-tech industry here in Farnborough, of which QinetiQ can rightly be proud.

“Simulation of this kind can provide invaluable cost-effective training to help prepare our troops for operations."

QinetiQ CEO Leo Quinn responded “We were delighted to be honoured by the Minister opening our new, very exciting facility and we were able to show that QinetiQ have a vast pool of ‘people who know how’ in using simulation training to add value and reduce cost in both military and commercial programmes, with the ability to integrate targeted, high or low fidelity environments, and everything in between.

“QinetiQ leads the integration of commercial off the shelf (COTS) or modified gaming engine technologies to create training solutions. As well as offering exceptional value, these COTS solutions can be networked enabled, making it easier to create complex scenarios for both military and commercial organisations to experiment with or train against.”

He added “It is vital that ground and air personnel are able to communicate with each other, especially in fast-moving scenarios and QinetiQ has already provided a ground breaking synthetic training facility to the Ministry of Defence to provide such potentially lifesaving pre-deployment training for UK forces before they leave for Afghanistan.”
