Sony Europe’s Image Sensing Solutions division has announced the first in a new family of ultra-small OEM camera modules. Sony will initially target security and industrial applications and the modules’ small size and high performance specifications also makes it ideal for creating wearable sports cameras, videoconferencing, videophone and low vision applications.
The FCB-MA130 module delivers full HD (1080p, 30fps) video and 13 megapixel still images from a 18x16.5x10.3mm, 2.2g housing. It incorporates a progressive scan CMOS (YCbCr422) image sensor with 1/25s-1/5000s, 24-step shutter speed and a high quality, 53o (movie mode, 58o still) lens using a piezo actuator module to deliver a focus range of 100mm to 8 with auto focus.
Sony has also enabled adaptive tone reproduction, real time move stabilisation and face detection to enable the system to be easily implemented in security and industrial applications.
“We’ve always placed reliability, image quality, sensitivity and long production life at the heart of Sony OEM cameras and this is no different,” said Stéphane Clauss of Sony ISS. “To create this we’ve combined everything we know about lens design, manufacturing and sensor technology to deliver a product that opens up new markets.”
The FCB Micro FCB-MA130 also delivers both automatic and manual focus, a range of exposure controls and white balances, 3DNR noise reduction, a 60 step, 16x digital zoom and ATR wide dynamic range. It is operational at -5oC to +50oC (storage temperature -20oC to +60oC) and in light conditions over 4lx. The device typically consumes 700mW in movie mode and and can be powered from the mains and batteries.
The module has entered mass production and are on display throughout Ifsec 2013 in Sony’s Birmingham NEC meeting booth, 5/80.
