Metronet IP infrastructure expands to Liverpool.

Metronet : 02 April, 2008  (Application Story)
Wireless IP network provider extends its wireless surveillance network technology to encompass the Northern UK city of Liverpool.
Having reached profitability in its first City - Manchester - Metronet has announced the availability of high-speed Internet and IP circuits in Liverpool.

Commenting on the expansion, Elliott Mueller, CEO, said, "The Company has achieved a number of milestones including the first support for wireless IP CCTV video streaming and the installation of the UK's first Gigabit wireless connection. Since targeting corporate data customers in October 2006, Metronet has acquired more than one hundred customers for its high quality cost effective alternative to traditional leased line circuits in addition to cultivating important strategic relationships with Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council."

In entering Liverpool, Metronet plans to retain its local focus with the establishment of Metronet Liverpool: delivering services and support that specifically reflect local needs.

As well as targeting corporate data clients, the Company is engaging with local Police and Council Authorities to promote use of its network infrastructure to support wireless CCTV video and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) systems.

Mueller claims that public sector customers, in particular, increasingly appreciate the quality of service delivered by the Company at a price point where traditional network operators simply cannot compete. "That services are delivered within five working days of receipt of order and operate to a 99.95% Service Level Agreement is a real bonus", he said.

Wireless CCTV and ANPR solutions present an exciting opportunity for Local Authorities and The Police. Traditional hard-wired cameras are inflexible and where mistakes are made with location, the network investment has to be written off. With Metronet, cameras can be moved at will to accommodate evolving requirements. As important, cameras can be installed at low cost within five days of order, thereby allowing crime and disorder to be addressed very quickly.

Metronet claims that its move into Liverpool will also result in another milestone being achieved by the Company as it plans to build its City-wide network with what it describes as 'fibre in the air'. With more than 75% of the UK's Gigabit wireless links registered to Metronet, the Company has unmatched expertise in a technology that allows it to develop ultra high-speed Metropolitan networks at a fraction of the cost of cabled network alternatives: a key element of ensuring that it continues its aggressive price/performance model.
