Medical publisher cleanses data with dn:director

Datanomic : 22 January, 2009  (Application Story)
Data management and security improved at BMJ Publishing with the introduction of dn:director from Datanomic
Fit-for-purpose data specialists, Datanomic has announced that medical publisher, BMJ Publishing Group, has selected Datanomic's dn:Director to cleanse, standardise, match and enhance its data - helping BMJ to achieve a consolidated Single View of its 1.6 million Customer/User records across multiple geographically dispersed databases. dn:Director will underpin BMJ Group's international market expansion strategy by enabling the Group to improve its customer and prospect data, allowing it to better segment markets, identify commercial opportunities and reduce internal costs.

BMJ Group is a global medical publisher and a wholly owned subsidiary of the British Medical Association. BMJ, the Group's flagship journal, was founded in 1840 and is one of the world's leading general medical journals. The Group provides a wide range of evidence-based medicine products in print, online and at events which combine to offer the medical community a comprehensive information support system - this helps improve the decisions clinicians make every day. With its head office in London, the Group has offices in the United States, Asia and Europe and is represented around the world.

"We're using dn:Director to facilitate a significant and on-going data cleansing and enrichment project to ensure that all of our User, Customer and Prospect data is current, accurate, complete and most importantly fit-for-purpose." said Phil Caisley, Head of Information Services for BMJ Group Ltd. "dn:Director will be used across the Group for all our data cleansing and data quality requirements. We expect to achieve immediate financial returns from the improved data through informed decision making, whether business development or operational in nature."

BMJ Group will start training and early development work with dn:Director in January and will begin deployment in early February 2009.

"Following a rigorous evaluation process, we selected Datanomic's dn:Director because of its rich product functionality, intuitive user interface and task-focused product support. In addition, dn:Director was able to process international data from geographically dispersed systems, including non-Latin and non-English names and addresses, which will be critical to us supporting and expanding our global presence. We expect to identify significant commercial opportunities by using dn:Director to enrich our data using third-party data sources and then using this enriched data for market segmentation and sales channel identification. Moving forward, we'll also be using dn:Director for real-time data cleansing at source to reduce the impact of data quality issues on downstream decision making."

Described by industry analysts as "arguably the most flexible data quality product", Datanomic's dn:Director provides a single, unified platform that enables both business and IT personnel, such as data stewards, business analysts and owners of data, to identify and rectify compromised data which can place operations at risk. As a single product that encompasses profiling, analysis and transformation, dn:Director enables better understanding, improvement, protection and control of data quality for all types of structured and non-structured, real-time and non-real time information.
