McAfee advice in wake of fraud on the Next directory

McAfee : 12 September, 2007  (Technical Article)
No room for complacency as large scale fraud and powerful botnets continue to hit businesses
Following today's news that the Next Directory website has been hit by multi-million-pound identity fraud, Greg Day, Security analyst for McAfee has said, 'This is a graphic example of how a breach in information security can impact both a business and its customers. The announcement today is however just the tip of the iceberg, as organisations across the globe continue to evaluate and look to implement security policy to protect against external and internal threat.'

McAfee continues to advise businesses to develop, enforce and ensure compliance of a security policy, safeguard data at every stage, implement access control and monitoring tools, monitor and prevent installation and usage of unauthorised applications and educate and train employees

The criminals behind the Storm Worm have created a Botnet containing millions of PCs which have a combined computing power greater than the most powerful supercomputer in existence.
