Low cost megapixel cameras for home or small office monitoring

D-Link : 11 February, 2009  (New Product)
D-Link brings high quality IP surveillance into the budgets of home and small office owners with the release of its DCS-2121 megapixel camera for use on wireless networks
Low cost megapixel cameras for home or small office monitoring
D-Link is upping the ante in the Home Security market with the launch of two new cost-effective network cameras for remote monitoring of the home or small office. Providing an all-in-one solution for creating a surveillance camera network over an existing wired or Wi-Fi network, the DCS-910 and DCS-2121 cameras bring high quality video monitoring to homes and small businesses, in an easy to set up, compact product.

The DCS-2121 MegaPixel Wireless Network Camera connects to a home or small business network - either wired or via Wi-Fi - to enable remote video viewing. With integrated Wi-Fi capability, the DCS-2121 can be mounted in places that were previously inaccessible, such as tight corners and areas with restricted access. The D-Link DCS-910 is an even more affordable wired version, which connects to a home or office network using standard Ethernet network cables.

D-ViewCam 2.0, a free network monitoring software, is included with both cameras to enable the simultaneous viewing of up to 32 cameras with a wide range of remote control features. D-ViewCam 2.0 is compatible with all current D-Link network cameras, offering digital monitoring and motion-triggered or scheduled recording capabilities of video, audio, and events for various security applications.

'The D-Link DCS-910 and DCS-2121 network cameras offer an ideal security solution for homes and small businesses on a budget because they provide high end surveillance features at a very affordable price,' said Andrew Mulholland, UK Marketing Manager, D-Link. 'What sets them apart from a traditional closed circuit camera system, is the remote access feature that allows users to log into the IP cameras and view streaming video from any computer connected to the internet.'

Both cameras can be accessed and controlled remotely from any PC or notebook over the local network or through the internet via a web browser. They both allow taking snapshots and recording directly from the web browser to a local hard drive. The cameras can be configured to detect motion, send email alerts when motion is triggered and record to a computer on the home network or attached storage devices for detailed video monitoring and playback. They represent an ideal solution to keep an eye on the home or office remotely by simply logging onto the camera using a web browser from any computer with internet access.

With their compact and sleek design, the new network cameras connect quickly and easily to an existing network, facilitating streaming high quality MJPEG video for viewing either locally or over the internet. Both cameras also have high light sensitivity allowing for video capture in rooms with minimal lighting and deliver up to 30 frames per second (fps) at 320x240 for smooth video.

Unlike a standard webcam, the DCS-2121 is a complete system with a built-in CPU and web server that transmits high quality video images for security and surveillance. The DCS-2121 also allows for simultaneous MJPEG and MJPEG-4 streams, has full-duplex 2-way audio and features an SD card slot for front-end storage.
