Lone Worker Protection For Windows Smartphone Users

Connexion2 : 03 November, 2010  (New Product)
Identicom mobile is now available for smartphones running Windows Mobile, bringing an additional convenient protection package for vulnerable workers
Lone Worker Protection For Windows Smartphone Users
Fast on the heels of the successful launch of its Identicom mobile for Blackberry smartphones, Connexion2, manufacturer of the multi-award winning Identicom lone worker device (LWD), has launched a new version of Identicom mobile for use with Windows Mobile smartphones. Offering the majority of the functionality available on the standard Identicom LWD, this new version of Identicom mobile utilises the touch screen features developed by Microsoft for mobile operating systems, which is used by a large number of phone manufacturers including Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and HTC among others.

Like Identicom mobile for Blackberry, the Windows Mobile version is compliant with Section 5.2.1 of BS8484 and is easy to install on all Microsoft Windows smartphones through a simple application download process. This enables a user to obtain the necessary help if they become a victim of verbal abuse; attack or they feel their safety could be compromised. As all versions of Identicom mobile utilise the same interface and the same function terminology i.e. Status Check, Amber Alert and Red Alert, companies are able to easily use a mixture of devices for their lone workers utilising the same communications policy, objectives and training. The product is also available through the company's 'direct to market' SoloProtect solutions, which, due to Connexion2's audit approval against BS8484, are guaranteed a Police escalation for the lone worker if required.

Microsoft Windows mobile is currently utilised by 9% of the UK smart phone market. It is anticipated that this figure will increase substantially with the launch of the new Windows Phone 7 Series later this year to take advantage of the strong growth in smartphones, which rose by 41% last year.

Both versions of Identicom mobile have been specifically produced for lone workers who face risk infrequently and may not require the provision of a dedicated device. In such instances, the suitability of a mobile-based lone worker application becomes apparent, especially when combined with the fact that many UK workers now carry a Blackberry or smartphone devices using Windows mobile. The software in both Identicom versions utilise the same function terminology as the renowned Identicom LWD, such as 'Amber Alert' and 'Red Alert', allowing the user to automatically open a 'Red Alert' through a definable single Blackberry key or in the case of Windows mobile applications through the touch of the screen. In both cases the technology provides for ease of use in the face of verbal abuse or attack.

Identicom mobile is available as a stand-alone product or can be integrated with Connexion2's new Online Tracking Application. This allows a lone worker to benefit from improved safety and their manager to better facilitate operations through the provision of detailed location tracking data. The online tracking application allows for the creation of definable Geo-fences to raise alerts and reports for managers, the plotting of a users 'breadcrumb' trail of movement and direction, and the facility to view a user's location at 'street view' level.
Craig Swallow, CEO of Connexion2 commented: "In today's business environment, many employees work alone from time to time either working late in the office, visiting customers or attending meetings. Providing these employees with lone worker support services is essential if employers are to meet their responsibilities under health and safety legislation. We're delighted to be launching an application for Windows mobile smartphones which we believe helps employers by expanding their choice of smartphone capable of utilising this essential application."

Connexion2 will be demonstrating Identicom mobile for Windows Mobile at the IT in Housing Exhibition 2010 on 23rd & 24th November 2010 at Olympia Conference Centre London on Stand 19 alongside Psion Teklogix and Barcode Warehouse.
