LiteStream mobile video transmission system

Overtis Systems : 23 April, 2009  (New Product)
Video encoder from Overtis enables mobile surveillance systems to transmit using minimal bandwidth over a number of narrowband network options
Overtis Solutions launches Overtis LiteStream video encoder, a rapidly deployable mobile video surveillance solution. LiteStream requires minimal bandwidth and can broadcast live video and audio over narrowband networks such as GPRS, 3G, IP radio or the Internet. Utilising patented compression and transmission technology developed by Overtis' technology partner, Essential Viewing, footage can be transmitted over connections as low as 9kbps with minimal delay. LiteStream is capable of withstanding high levels of vibration and is designed to operate reliably in almost any location making it suitable for fixed, in-vehicle and body-worn surveillance applications with the added flexibility of video footage being accessible to multiple users simultaneously via a secure dedicated server.

In addition to broadcasting over GPRS, 3G and IP networks, LiteStream can also deliver live video and audio over HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) networks for even greater performance. By eliminating the need for dedicated cable-lay and with mobile network costs being incurred only when a connection is made, solutions using LiteStream can be significantly more cost-effective than fixed line alternatives. LiteStream is particularly suited to both covert and overt applications that require tactical or sporadic monitoring and can be configured for a multitude of uses from monitoring trouble spots, road works and building sites, to festivals, shows and events. LiteStream is also equally suited to on-the-move video surveillance from public transport, police or other emergency services vehicles. Operational and control centre staff, as well as mobile response units, can use the LiteStream software to view and take PTZ (pan tilt zoom) control of cameras in real time and with minimal perceptible latency.

Available standalone or as an end-to-end solution, LiteStream includes a unique energy-efficient encoder module, minimising power consumption and making it highly suitable for battery-powered rapid-deployment or temporary surveillance applications. When deployed, the encoders feed back to the LiteStream server application and using the viewer software multiple users can securely access the video stream simultaneously from any Windows PC or PDA's running Windows Mobile.

User-definable frame rates and frame sizes allow LiteStream to be remotely configured for optimum performance in any given situation and the optional on-board recording module allows high resolution archived footage to be remotely reviewed whenever necessary.

"We are now able to offer a complete solution to any organisation looking to deploy a low-cost, flexible video surveillance solution capable of operating over limited bandwidth connections such as cellular GPRS and 3G networks. With LiteStream, there no longer has to be a trade-off between cost and quality," said Stewart Redman, Head of Mobile Solutions, at Overtis. "Available as either a system module or as part of a complete turnkey offering, LiteStream is a surveillance solution without compromise."

"Through our partnership with Overtis, we're proud to be able to offer our transmission technology as part of the LiteStream solution. Originally developed for military applications, we believe the quality, reliability and resilience provided by this technology are second to none. The real time video transmission capabilities, image quality and ability to accurately pan, tilt and zoom even over narrowband cellular networks are truly astonishing - all made possible by the advanced video compression techniques and associated low-latency of this British technology," said Graeme Campbell, Business Development Manager, Essential Viewing.
