LifeLock consumer education program on identity theft

LifeLock : 04 September, 2009  (Company News)
A tiered approach is being used by LifeLock to reach consumers and law enforcement groups in the fight against identity theft
Empowering consumers with a clear understanding of identity theft issues and providing a variety of proactive solutions is the core of LifeLock's mission to combat identity theft. LifeLock, a proactive identity theft protection service, uses a tiered approach that educates consumers, works closely with law enforcement, and sustains its educational support system through strong community partnerships in an effort to combat the crime of identity theft.

To help educate individuals and communities, LifeLock has introduced the LifeLock Speakers Series, a compilation of educational presentations designed for specific consumer groups that focus on the current state of the crime, the severity of the crime in the specific region, and the many solutions available to consumers, including both free options and paid services. So far in 2009, the LifeLock Speakers Series has reached nearly 4,500 consumers in more than 20 states.

In partnership with the FBI's Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA), LifeLock has hosted 10 Identity Theft Summits since October 2008, bringing law enforcement officials together to discuss investigative techniques and to work various cases. From Las Vegas to Atlanta, and from Chicago to Houston, more than 1,100 law enforcement officials from more than 420 different agencies have participated in the summits.

"There is a tremendous value in hearing new trends and sharing information," said Captain Debra Schmidt, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office in Houston, Texas. "I'm grateful that LifeLock saw the importance of bringing the law enforcement community together, strengthening our law enforcement partnerships in the fight against the epidemic of identity theft."

LifeLock sustains its educational support system through strong community partnerships. Through partnerships with national organizations like Mentor and the National Organization for Victims Assistance, LifeLock is able to deliver the educational LifeLock Speakers Series for free to audiences around the country. These partnerships further aid consumers in understanding the potential threats that face them related to identity theft.
