Laptop encryption and tracking technology

ExactTrack : 07 May, 2009  (New Product)
Security Guardian from ExactTrak provides strong encryption technology for mobile data and automatic GPS device tracking
ExactTrak has launched the latest offensive in the battle to keep mobile data completely secure. Security Guardian, a 45g USB device acts like a standard memory stick, but automatically encrypts all stored data to AES-256 standards, and comes with integrated GPS so users can track its whereabouts in real time. Security Guardian can hold up to 32GB of encrypted data which remains inaccessible until the device is either connected to authorised hardware or sanctioned by an authorised user.

"The encrypt and track functionality of Security Guardian offers users a complete mobile data security solution," says Norman Shaw, managing director of ExactTrak. "In this age of mobile computing, data is continually at risk. it can be lost on any number of devices from a laptop accidentally left in a bar or a USB memory device dropped in a nightclub. Security Guardian puts users back in control in all scenarios and allows them to take advantage of mobile computing and the flexibility it offers, while retaining control of sensitive information. It may be small but it is incredibly powerful."

The encryption and tracking combination of Security Guardian enables organisations to control exactly where their data is being accessed, whether it is a desktop PC, laptop, or other mobile device, and to see where it is being used. Businesses can then turn on the memory store remotely if appropriate, send encryption keys or, in a worst-case scenario, remotely delete sensitive information. The device's optional location-based encryption also ensures that the data is only accessible when Security Guardian is in certain locations.

Secure Guardian's memory remains inaccessible until authorised either by a local user or via remote SMS command from an authorised source.

Security Guardian can also be paired to a specific laptop, and acts as a secure access token as well as being able to track the hardware. Any unauthorised attempt to remove the device from the machine will render it inoperable until Security Guardian is replaced or password protected enabling software is used. An integrated battery means Security Guardian can be tracked for up to three days, and can track laptops and other mobile devices even when they are switched off.

Security Guardian has the ability to perform a number of data security tasks remotely as required. These include: changing the password of a stolen or misplaced laptop and deleting selected data files or, if necessary, the entire hard disk.

Security Guardian is available immediately from ExactTrak, prices start at £95.00 per device. Following a successful field trial, the Health Protection Agency has already placed an order for the product.
