IT Network protection covers Armed Forces Charity

Astaro : 11 November, 2009  (Application Story)
The Astaro Security Gateway is providing IT Network Security for Services Sound and Vision Corporation enabling secure remote access to central resources
Astaro has announced that the Services Sound and Vision Corporation (SSVC), a charitable organisation that provides entertainment, information and news services including the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) to Britain's Armed Forces personnel around the world, has deployed Astaro all-in-one security systems to protect its IT networks, as well as supporting remote access for BFBS news correspondents reporting from the field.

SSVC has around 350 staff and operates alongside Forces operations worldwide, providing television and radio services wherever they are required. To support these activities, Astaro Security Gateway (ASG) systems provide complete protection for the organisation's IT services. Implemented by NDS8, an Astaro Preferred Partner and leading provider of IT consulting and security solutions, a centrally deployed pair of ASG 320 units is used to protect and manage IT security for SSVC.

Karim Kronfli, Head of IT for SSVC, said, "Our previous IT security product was approaching its end-of-life period, so we were looking for a solution that would be easy to deploy, simple to manage in the long term and robust. Working with NDS8 as our consultants our experience with Astaro has been very positive: the interface for centrally managing the appliances across the network gives us everything we require and the level of functionality was extremely good. We have now been able to roll-out remote access to the BFBS reporters that are covering news from a Forces point of view, helping them to be more efficient in how they use IT in their day-to-day activities while remaining secure."

Andrew Fourie, sales director UK and Ireland for Astaro commented, "The implementation at SSVC shows how important ease of use is when it comes to security. With reporters working around the world and often in hostile conditions, SSVC has to provide access that is both simple and secure or users simply won't use the service. Astaro's approach is based on making security as easy as possible, both for the organisation involved through centralised management of our systems, as well as for the individual workers that are being protected."

Astaro all-in-one security appliances support an expanded range of security functionality, from a stateful inspection firewall and intrusion prevention through to integrated anti-virus, anti-spam and web filtering / proxy services. As deployed at SSVC's head office, Astaro appliances can run in active/passive mode to provide high availability and protection against failure.
