ISF President appointed by US Government

Information Security Forum : 24 December, 2009  (Company News)
The CEO and President of the Information Security Forum is leaving his position to take up a role to oversee Government and Civilian infrastructure security for the US Government
The President and CEO of the Information Security Forum (ISF), Prof Howard Schmidt, has been appointed Cyber Security Coordinator by President Obama. He will be responsible for overseeing the security of the US government and civilian critical infrastructure and as a result is resigning his role at the ISF.

"I would like to thank Howard for his major contribution to the ISF's mission to help overcome the growing information security challenges faced by businesses and government today," said Kim Aarenstrup, ISF Executive and Council Chair. "At the ISF we wholeheartedly support the efforts of the US - and all other governments around the world - in recognising the importance of addressing the growing and rapidly changing cyber threats to their economies, public safety and national security, all of which need a robust and secure digital infrastructure."

Howard will be responsible for orchestrating the many important cybersecurity activities across the government. He will have regular access to the President and serve as a key member of his National Security Staff. He will also work closely with the President's economic team to ensure that cybersecurity efforts keep the US Nation secure and prosperous."

"I am honoured to have been selected by President Obama and look forward to returning to public service," said Howard Schmidt. "I bring to this challenge lessons learned during over 40 years experience in Government, business and law enforcement, and most recently as President and CEO of the Information Security Forum."

The ISF is a not-for-profit, international association of some 300 leading companies and public sector organizations worldwide, dedicated to reducing risk and resolving information security challenges. In addition to its major body of research, the ISF has also developed advanced information risk methodologies and benchmarking tools.
