Intelligent surveillance software to be presented at Intelligent Transport Systems congress
Prescient Group is introducing its innovative iSentry software at the 15th World Congress of Intelligent Transport Systems convention at booth # 556 of the Javits Convention Centre (November 16-20).

The iSentry launch in North America promises to be a new paradigm in artificial intelligence security surveillance technology. Proactive rather than forensic, iSentry is "the most technologically advanced proactive security software in the industry today," according to Prescient Group co-founder and President Charles Barber.

The iSentry program actively "learns" normal behaviours and then is able to distil suspicious or out of the ordinary behaviour and then immediately takes responsive action as predetermined by the client.

According to Prescient Group co-founder and Chairman Kendall Chen: "The iSentry advanced intelligence-based technology works to protect business and industry from multiple harm and security concerns. This should be of extraordinary interest to the World Congress of Intelligent Transport Systems audience, specifically with highway or rail transportation and container box/ shipping and maritime interests; as well as in the defence sector; homeland security; the power generation sector; hospitality; business in general and hospitals."

How iSentry works: iSentry learns normal behaviour by observation and detects unusual activity. Using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) software, the iSentry software is able to learn the activity patterns of the things and people in the camera's view; and how to filter out normal activity and detect unusual activity. iSentry's "black screen" technology dramatically increases video surveillance efficiencies, utilizing a client's existing closed circuit television infrastructure. The iSentry technology maintains a black screen until it identifies unusual or suspicious behavior is identified. Therefore, only "of interest" video is displayed. Concurrently, pre-programmed responses, pre-determined by the client, such as email notifications, claxon alerts, lockdowns, and notification of building and regional security personnel, are already underway.

Mr Barber and Mr Chen note that the iSentry technology has the power to accomplish five things that few other systems can:

* Detect unusual activity: iSentry can filter out over 95% of so-called normal motion video and only present unusual activity to operators. It provides excellent and unrivalled situational awareness and the ability to achieve an effective, immediate response.

* Multiple camera analysis and management: iSentry accommodates large numbers of cameras by scheduling interesting video, allowing the operator to shift priorities without missing critical incidents.

* Active pan/ tilt/ zoom (PTZ) camera control: iSentry can autonomously command the PTZ camera to zoom in and track the target. This ensures detailed images are captured, all without human detection.

* Ultra long video archive: iSentry relegates low-interest video to be saved in a lower resolution or quality, reducing disc storage space by 90%.

* Reliable outdoor left-object detection: iSentry can reliably detect small objects left in busy outdoor areas, even during most all weather conditions, rain, hail or shine.

With the World Congress Intelligent Transport Systems audience in mind, Mr Barber said: "The safety and security of transportation systems are of vital importance to our society. iSentry has developed specific responses to the singular needs of the transportation industry."

The iSentry Roadway Lane Infringement System (RLI), for instance, tracks every vehicle in the lane of interest and determines if it complies with specific rules. Pre-tunnel bus lanes, for example, are one application, as well as municipal "don't block the box" intersections, which have a special interest in places like New York City. When an infringement vehicle is detected, the RLI system will record both video data and still images of the event. Utilising automatic license plate recognition, violators can be identified. Infringement file containing video, still images and metadata may be created, encrypted, authenticated and transmitted to the relevant authority's infringement operations center.

Prescient Group representatives are currently working in New York City toward a prototype trial of the iSentry technology involving "don't block the box" violators and identification video. Presently, Department of Traffic (DOT) personnel monitor camera video for 8 hours each day, identifying those motorists who "block the box." "This takes forever," Mr Barber said." What the iSentry system will do is to identify those instances only where there is a true block-the-box scenario, when the yellow light commences, and after the yellow light is initiated and where there is no reasonable expectation that a driver can successfully clear the intersection without blocking the box. Our technology will alert the DOT representative only where there is video of interest, and not subject them to a mass presentation of traffic video. If the prototype is adopted, this should represent a tremendous productivity boost to the NYC DOT, with significant attendant labor cost savings. The realization of the iSentry prototype system will empower DOT representatives to work smarter and more efficiently."

Left-object detection is also of special interest to transportation officials. iSentry's left-object detection of objects left or stopped at any location is proven in all weather conditions and can include any number of items of interest, whether they be small packages, stalled vehicles or roadway debris that can be hazardous to the traveling public at large.

Maritime Surveillance Applications: Also with the World Congress meeting in mind, Mr. Chen noted, "Traditionally, the maritime environment has been one of the most difficult environments for which to provide effective security modules. The constantly moving background effects of wind, waves and tide have limited the ability of monitoring programs to alert on actual incidents, and has caused numerous false alerts. Surveillance video traditionally until now has been completely ineffective in the maritime environment."

Mr Chen said that the iSentry Maritime Security Module was developed in response to this need. Utilising artificial intelligence, iSentry has the ability to effectively filter out changing environmental abnormalities and to eliminate annoying false alerts, thus identifying true security issues in real time. "The iSentry Maritime Surveillance model is a system with a proven ability to meet the security requirements of the challenging maritime environment, including ports and harbours," Mr Chen said.
