ISC2 funds research for Information Security post graduate students.

ISC Squared : 21 February, 2008  (Company News)
Applications are now being taken by ISC squared for scholarship grants in Information Security post graduate research programs.
(ISC)2 has announced it is accepting applications for the annual (ISC)2 Information Security Scholarship Programme for 2008. The programme will offer £50,000 in financial assistance to full-time post-graduate students around the world who are conducting information security research projects.

One-year scholarships of up to £6,250 each may be awarded to up to eight qualifying full-time post-graduate students pursuing an advanced degree in information security at any regionally accredited university worldwide. The submission deadline is April 30, 2008. The awards will be announced in June of this year.

"We staunchly believe in supporting information security professionals throughout their careers," said John Colley, CISSP, managing director of (ISC)2 EMEA. "The scholarship programme is just one way in which we are working to advance the profession through education and research. We are honoured to provide opportunities for emerging leaders to continue their critical research that is shaping the future of our profession."

To apply, candidates must submit a scholarship application form, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, three character references and a proposed budget for using the scholarship funds. Students must also include a certified statement from their faculty advisor or institution confirming that:· The applicant is a post-graduate student in good standing in the institution and with the relevant department;· The applicant is pursuing a defined information security research project that has been approved by their college or university;· The applicant's research supervisor must also submit a letter of endorsement reflecting the character of the individual and the projected timeline to project completion.

To obtain the (ISC)2 Information Security Scholarship form and read more about the programme, candidates should visit the ISC2 web site. Previous winners of the scholarship may reapply, and applications may be submitted for multiple projects. The (ISC)2 Scholarship Committee will review all applications and make final candidate selections based on the quality of the research, (ISC)2 credential status and financial need. Selected applicants will be subject to background checks and a final review by the (ISC)2 Board of Directors. The committee will then notify selected winners.

The eight winners of the 2007 programme, who come from Asia, Europe and the Americas each received a US$12,500 (£6,250) scholarship to fund research in a variety of information security areas, including access control; policy; network threat detection, analysis and mitigation; risk analysis; and cryptography.

The scholarship programme is a component of (ISC)2's Academic Programme. The global programme offers academic institutions opportunities to enhance information security education for their students via scholarships, instructor-led (ISC)2 Review Seminars, certification exams and academic credit for (ISC)2 certification holders. The program also offers eLearning to information security professionals and professional experience credit for (ISC)2 certification candidates holding degrees from accredited academic institutions.
