IPSecurityCenter implementation takes CNL to award finals

IPSecurityCenter implementation takes CNL to award finals
CNL, the developer of Physical Information Security Management software, has been nominated as a finalist at the Security Excellence Awards 2009. It has been selected for the award of "Integrated Security Solution of the Year", based on the integration it completed for Greater Manchester Police, using IPSecurityCenter its PSIM software, which was completed in conjunction with BT.

As with any large city, GMP needed to deliver visual intelligence to the point of need to secure both high profile events and for day to day operational needs. The UK has more CCTV cameras per person than any other country in the world, so rather than installing hundreds of additional cameras, GMP decided to integrate feeds from cameras already in position at a range of public facilities as well as their own cameras including airports, councils, stadiums, convention centres, hotels, aircraft, mobile CCTV and more.

This created a new challenge; how to connect video from all of these disparate proprietary systems and present it in a unified format, which only required operator interaction through one Command and Control platform.

A method was also needed to distribute this intelligence to the point of need, where it could be used to guide officers from other remote locations. These officers needed to not only view these cameras, but to have PTZ control over them when necessary.

GMP installed CNL's PSIM software, IPSecurityCenter, to enable it to meet these challenges.

The system allows the management and display of visual intelligence to police staff in a Silver categorized Command and Control Module, strategically located some distance from the city centre, which reduces risk and allows for continuity in case of a major incident. Importantly, this Command and Control centre delivers relevant video for a range of agencies and different levels of command including, Gold Commander, Silver Commander, UK Armed Services, Protected Persons, Firearms, Triage, CCTV Gatekeeper, Roads Policing, Public Order and Communications Operators.

It has been successfully deployed to the meet the requirements of both day to day operations and those of high profile events such as the annual Labour Party Conference and The UEFA cup finals.

Keith Bloodworth, CEO of CNL commented "We are delighted to have been selected for this industry award. Personally, I am pleased to see some recognition for the system GMP has deployed. It is a fantastic system, which demonstrates how PSIM is helping to centralise, aggregate and distribute intelligence to the people that need it. We have worked closely with GMP and know the work that has gone into making this happen, they have created a benchmark system."
