International Risk Leader Conference A Success for the IRM

Institute Of Risk Management : 16 April, 2010  (Company News)
The Institute Of Risk Management has held a conference for international risk management specialists at Keel University in central England
The Institute of Risk Management has celebrated its growing international influence by hosting its first conference for the leaders of its international and specialist members groups. 23 group leaders from countries including Russia, Qatar and Ireland, and subject areas ranging from financial services to central government, gathered at the Institute's annual conference at Keele University.

The Institute has now grown to over 3000 members, of which approximately 25% are outside the UK. Where local membership is particularly strong, local groups are formed by member volunteers and 14 such groups are now in existence, with more coming together. Likewise 13 specialist groups have formed to examine particular areas of risk management. Group meetings are open to members and prospective members as the 'local face' of the IRM.

A key theme emerging from the conference was that internet technology will be an important way forward in supporting the spread of professional Risk Management education and development throughout the world.

IRM Chief Executive Steve Fowler said 'The tools and techniques of effective enterprise Risk Management share common ground wherever you are in the world and whatever sector you are in. IRM seeks to support its members throughout the world and our groups are an essential part of this process."

James Portelli, convenor of the network of IRM groups in the Middle East, added that '"Interest in Risk Management education and professional development is growing throughout the Middle East and the local groups are an important part of IRM's presence in the region. We very much welcome IRM's move to bring together all the group leaders for this networking conference."
