Infoworld 100 award for casino surveillance running Pivot3 serverless computing

Pivot 3 : 04 December, 2009  (Application Story)
The large scale IP video surveillance system at Choctaw Casinos running Axis network cameras and Genetec VMS on a Pivot3 serverless computing environment wins 2009 InfoWorld 100 Award
Pivot3 has announced that Choctaw Casinos received IDG's InfoWorld 100 award for a large-scale video surveillance project, which included the Pivot3 Serverless Computing systems, network cameras from Axis Communications, and video management software from Genetec.

Companies around the world rely on technology to enable and enhance their business operations and deliver on their business strategies. The InfoWorld 100 Awards recognize each year the 100 most innovative use of IT initiatives to further business goals. "This year's recipients of InfoWorld's highest honor are shining examples of IT projects undertaken by tech leaders committed to pushing their organizations forward," said Jason Snyder, features editor at InfoWorld.

The Choctaw Casino deployed more than two petabytes of Pivot3 Serverless Computing storage with embedded virtual servers, and, by loading video management application software directly on the Pivot3 Serverless Computing platform, the casinos stripped out more than 90 physical servers. In addition to the green benefits of nearly 70 kilowatts saved, they saved more than $300,000 in server acquisition costs, and limited data center build-out costs by eliminating more than four racks of servers. Lastly, the casino deployed Pivot3 VM Failoverâ„¢ technology to help meet gaming regulations, so that applications running on the platform would automatically restart in the case of an appliance failure.

"Casino environments have the highest requirements for video surveillance solution in the industry, so we are proud to be able to fulfill Choctaw's needs with our partners Pivot3 and Genetec," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications. "This award proves, once again, that open-system, IP-based video surveillance solutions are designed to meet the most stringent customer requirements."

"The Choctaw implementation is impressive because of the size of the project, which magnifies the benefit of open systems and the benefit of running video management software in a virtualized environment to save cost and provide application failover," said Michel Chalouhi, director of product management at Genetec."Virtualized servers are an essential part of the implementation, making our joint solutions more affordable and more supportable."

"We congratulate the Choctaw team and are glad to see them following the green IT movement with open-system solutions that allow them to save on power, cooling, and rackspace, but also choose vendors based on their own requirements," said Lee Caswell, founder and CMO of Pivot3. "It is the value and power of open-system companies that have been appealing to customers like Choctaw, and we are pleased to see our partners validate our efforts."
