Inexpensive biometric fingerprint reader for computer access

Cherry Electrical Products : 16 October, 2008  (New Product)
ST TouchChip fingerprint scanner now available for internet purchasing and delivery within the UK.
Cherry Electrical Products is opening the world of biometric computer access to anyone who would like to try it with the launch of their low-cost ST TouchChip Fingerprint/Smartcard reader, which is now available complete with software for only £20 including postage and packing through Cherry's online eBay shop.

Consisting of a UPEK fingerprint/smartcard reader unit and Siemens ID software V5.2, the ST TouchChip Fingerprint/Smartcard reader incorporates a top-mounted fingerprint reader which allows secure password-free access to Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP systems by matching the authorized user's fingerprint with templates stored on the computer. The system also integrates with password-enabled Windows programmes and even has the ability to 'lock down' individual MS Office documents so they can only be accessed by fingerprint, protecting sensitive data from prying eyes. A Vista compatible version developed by Bromba, who now license the software, is available at additional cost. The Smartcard reader/writer is side-mounted, saving space on this small, light and very easy-to-use unit.

In transparent blue only, a single Cherry ST TouchChip reader and software costs £17.00, plus £3.00 postage and packing to UK mainland addresses and can be ordered from the company's eBay shop.
