Incident management system certification

SYS Technologies : 13 March, 2008  (New Product)
Vigilys gains NIMS compliance for use as an incident management system in US homeland security applications.
SYS Technologies has announced that their Vigilys product has successfully completed an evaluation by the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Support Centre. SYS, who recently entered into a merger agreement with Kratos Defence & Security Solutions, had this evaluation conducted in support of the Incident Management Systems Integration Division within the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The DHS has made compliance with NIMS one of its top priorities. NIMS set forth the requirement for interoperability and compatibility to enable public and private organizations to conduct well-integrated and effective incident management operations. The evaluation was conducted as part of the Supporting Technology Evaluation Program whose purpose is to identify those products which incorporate new and existing technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in all aspects of incident management.

"We are delighted to have successfully completed this evaluation by the National Incident Management System Support Centre," said Cliff Cooke, president and Chief Executive Officer of SYS. "The Vigilys product was designed with NIMS compliance and first responder needs in mind, and this validation of our product by NIMS is a major accomplishment," he continued. "We believe that this event is a major milestone in the evolution of Vigilys and we expect these results to make it easier for our customers to purchase and utilise these capabilities."

Evaluation activities are designed to help create a uniform level of compliance, expand technology solutions and provide the emergency response community with findings to assist in making informed procurement decisions that support system interoperability and NIMS. By utilising the SYS Vigilys product, which has now been determined to comply with NIMS, first responder agencies increase their own NIMS compliance and their ability to get funding from the DHS.

This evaluation had two objectives; the first was to determine the product's adherence to the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards Common Alerting Protocol 1.1 standard, and the second was to evaluate the incorporation of the NIMS concepts and principles. Specifically, the report indicated that "Subject Matter Experts conducting the evaluation determined that the product is consistent with the concepts and principles of NIMS and rated the categories, Emergency Support Functions, Hazards, and Implementation (both Time and Training), with a value of five out of five. The primary benefit of the system is that it provides emergency managers and responders with a tool to help them establish a common operating picture and enhanced situational awareness. The product is a useful tool for both Emergency Operations Centre and field operation personnel."
