Imperva Comments On Secerno Acquisition

Imperva : 24 May, 2010  (Technical Article)
Oracle's acquisition of Sercerno is seen by Imperva is evidence of the growing requirement of Digital Asset Management
On May 20th 2010, Oracle announced the acquisition of Secerno, adding a database firewall to Oracle's database security solutions. The purchase price was not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close at the end of next month, according to Oracle. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently.

According to Imperva's CTO Amichai Shulman, this is yet another validation for the DAM market opportunity : Following Guardium's acquisition by IBM last year, this acquisition again validates the database security market. There is a growing need for DAM and DBF solutions which Oracle could no longer ignore. The Secerno acquisition is a direct response to increased customer demand.

Oracle needed this technology : Oracle database security solutions lack the ability to provide real-time alerts and blocking of database security events. The added profiling technology will allow customers to get better notifications about abnormal activity.

Now we need to wait and see how Oracle plans to utilize and integrate this technology. The potential is there and so is the market need. But additional investment will be required to bring this solution to where it should be.
