The importance of anti-counterfeit measures and the role played by holograms has been underscored by the International Hologram Manufacturers Association through the appointment of a representative in China
IHMA appoints China representative

The trade body which represents the global hologram industry has appointed its first representative from China as it looks to develop its presence in the country.

The International Hologram Manufacturers Association (IHMA), a not-for-profit organisation which represents and promotes the hologram industry worldwide, has elected Leo Jai of Hubei LHTC Anti-Counterfeit technology Corp Ltd as its China board member.

The move comes as Mike Messmer of US-based hologram producer NovaVision Inc is confirmed as the IHMA’s new chairman, joining the board alongside existing member Roman Kmonicek of optical security devices and holograms producer, Optaglio.

Process Color’s Rajan Thoma (Asia) and Everest’s Rajendra Surana (Deputy Asia) have also been confirmed as board members.

Europe will be covered by Tim Akerman, API Holographics (EU/EFTA) and Vesna Jancic, System Intelligence Products (E-Europe CIS/FSU), while Gloria Hazen, Hazen Paper Company, will represent North America and Manoj Kochar, Holoflex Ltd - the HoMAI representative - will cover the burgeoning India market.

The appointments will underpin the IHMA’s continuing mission to advance the understanding, use and development of holograms and holographic technology, particularly in the authentication of products and documents, decoration and illustration, displays and display systems, energy and environmental improvements.

Mike Messmer said he was honoured to become chairman and added: “The IHMA is committed more than ever to promote the interests of the hologram industry and to provide valuable support and guidance to its members.”

“We are seeing a significant amount of activity in the China market, so to have strategic representation there will be hugely beneficial as we look to bring on board new members from a territory that can be challenging to penetrate.

“Elsewhere, hologram innovation continues to flourish, and it’s encouraging to see new ideas being generated by both established players and companies new to the arena.”

Founded in 1983, the IHMA is a not-for-profit organisation made up of more than 90 of the world's leading hologram companies, including leading producers and converters of holograms for banknote security, anti-counterfeiting, brand protection, packaging, graphics and other commercial applications.

The IHMA promotes holography worldwide and offers guidance and industry best practices to its members. Member companies actively cooperate to maintain the highest professional, security and quality standards.
