ICSA lab certification for FortiMail-4000A

Fortinet : 03 June, 2008  (New Product)
High performance messaging platform upgraded with enhanced security through e-mail authentication
Fortinet has announced an upgrade to its high-performance, multi-layered FortiMail secure email messaging platform, which has been proven highly effective at reducing unwanted email as certified through independent ICSA Labs testing. With newly released enhancements to the enterprise-class FortiMail operating system, the FortiMail family of appliances now offers improved email authentication, the ability to identify and reject forged addresses, centralised quarantining, a quick-start configuration wizard for easy set-up, a basic/advanced-mode GUI for simple or detailed policy control, and extended language support for the Webmail interface.

In addition to the new FortiMail enhancements, Fortinet is one of the first vendors to earn the coveted ICSA Labs certification for anti-spam technology under a new testing program launched this year. In formal, independent ICSA Labs testing, Fortinet's enterprise-class FortiMail-4000A appliance effectively reduced unwanted email and successfully recognized email messages from legitimate sources. Products awarded ICSA Labs certification have been found to satisfy specific baseline requirements, such as a 95 percent effectiveness with a 1 in 100,000 false positive rate for small to medium-sized businesses, large enterprises and carriers.

Improvements to the FortiMail appliance include new GUI enhancements that make deployment and operation quick and easy. The FortiMail quick-start configuration wizard launches at set-up, prompting users to enter IP, domain and other information before finalizing configuration. Based on this feature, users can have FortiMail inspecting traffic within minutes of opening the box. For users who want to set and forget their email inspection, the basic mode GUI offers simple radio buttons to enable antivirus and anti-spam protection without requiring ongoing policy maintenance. Conversely, savvy users who want to granularly control policies also have access to all facets of FortiMail's inspection process. Additional usability enhancements such as extended language support, quarantined spam storage redirection and search capabilities, and availability of lists for each protected domain illustrate FortiMail's improved ease of use.

"As one of the first vendors to be certified under the new ICSA Labs Anti-Spam Certification Program, we believe our FortiMail platform sets an industry benchmark for solutions in this sector," said Anthony James, vice president of products for Fortinet. "The ICSA certification is validation of the high quality of the FortiMail appliance, which combines robust threat protection with significantly improved usability to reduce system resource consumption and operational expenses."

Fortinet's FortiMail is a family of high-performance, multi-layered email security platforms that remove unwanted spam, provide maximum protection for blended email-related threats and facilitate regulatory compliance. FortiMail can work independently of, or in conjunction with, Fortinet's flagship network security platform - the FortiGate appliance - to offer a deeper level of inspection of email traffic and to protect email resources. FortiMail enables enterprises to increase productivity by reducing unwanted spam messages, reduce the consumption of mail system and network resource consumption caused by spam messages, and facilitates regulatory compliance through advanced email content archiving and routing. Fortinet offers FortiMail updates through its FortiGuard Anti-spam and Antivirus Subscription Services, which make use of Fortinet's reputation database and signatures to identify and block spam, phishing attempts, viruses, spyware and other email-borne threats and deliver automatic real-time updates to FortiMail appliances located around the world.
