ICM Accreditation For Physical Intervention Skills Training

Giant Step Training : 16 November, 2010  (Company News)
Giant Step Training becomes first in Scotland to offer the guarding industry training courses in Physical Intervention Skills which are approved by the Institute of Conflict Management
Giant Step Training has become the first training organisation in Scotland to be accredited to offer the Institute of Conflict Management (ICM) approved course in Physical Intervention Skills for the security industry.

The Glasgow-based company is offering one-day intensive courses in Physical Intervention Skills at venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow during November and December. Under SIA rules this training has been mandatory for new door supervisors from June this year.

"Until now door supervisors have had to travel further afield to undertake the necessary training," said David Mackay, operations director, Giant Step Training Limited. "We are very pleased to be the first centre in Scotland to be accredited by the ICM to provide this essential training to the security industry. Door supervisors and security staff frequently have to deal with volatile and violent situations. Our professional training can teach them proven techniques and tactics designed to defuse the situation and remain safe whilst working within the boundaries of the law."

The PIS training is led by Giant Step director Frank Etherson who was previously Officer Safety Co-ordinator for Strathclyde Police. Frank has extensive professional experience in the fields of security, martial arts and sport. Frank is also approved by the ICM to train other trainers in Physical Intervention Skills.
