ICA Botnet Sale Increases Need For Strong Security

AEP Networks : 27 October, 2010  (Technical Article)
AEP Networks comments on the Iranian Cyber Army's intention to hire out access to botnets
The Iranian Cyber Army has announced that it is offering its services on the cyber black market by selling access to its botnet.

Paul Spencer, general manager at trusted security firm, AEP Networks commented: "Cybercrime is a business and botnets are the heart of cyber crime infrastructure. The selling of the Botnet by the Iranian Cyber Army doesn't come as any surprise - cyber criminals, just like any other criminals need to find new ways to make money. But it's no longer just about making a quick buck. The potential for the Botnet to be used in a targeted attack against critical infrastructure is very real.

"With the goal of the Iranian Cyber Army to 'conquer virtual space,' the move away from defacement attacks against Twitter and Baidu towards malicious botnets sees it aiming to fulfil its powerful objective. Whilst it is far easier to identify a vulnerability than to make certain that data is safe from all such vulnerabilities, when it comes to protecting the integrity of critical infrastructure, ensuring the highest levels of security is absolutely paramount."

AEP Networks provides the highest grade security technologies to Government, military and enterprise organisations to support their mission critical applications and networks.
