HP Business Notebooks Gain BioTrust Facial Recognition Biometrics

Cogent Systems : 06 May, 2010  (Application Story)
Windows Login and Web Single-Sign-On for HP Notebooks is enabled with Facial BioTrust biometric face recognition software from Cogent which utilises images from embedded webcams
Cogent Systems has announced that its Facial BioTrust software has been integrated into the latest HP Business Notebook Mini 5102 series launched in January 2010, enabling individuals to log onto their computer via facial recognition. This is the first large scale deployment of facial biometrics in the commercial sector, providing improved ease-of-use, convenience, and security over traditional password entry.

The Web Single-Sign-On (SSO) and Windows login features will significantly enhance end user experience by enabling them to log on to a variety of Internet services, from e-mail access to online shopping, as well as social networking, and travel websites, using only their face. Users simply face the 2-megapixel webcam of the HP Mini 5102 to log in. In the coming months, Cogent's facial recognition technology will be included in other selected HP Business Notebook PC and desktop models. In an upcoming release, users will have the choice of using face or finger for their login and Web SSO application.

'This is an exciting opportunity for Cogent to expand its footprint in the commercial biometrics sector,' said Christopher Crump, Director of Commercial Business of Cogent Systems. 'In the near future, we will be launching our standalone BioTrust that will be compatible with any computer running Windows XP, Vista or Win 7 with any standard webcam.'
