RSA Conference : 07 April, 2008  (Company News)
IT security threat impact to be the subject of speech at RSA conference by recently sworn in Secretary of the department for homeland security.
The RSA Conference has announced that the Honourable Michael Chertoff, US Secretary of Homeland Security, is scheduled to join a prestigious list of featured speakers at RSA Conference 2008 - taking place April 7-11, 2008, at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco. On Tuesday, April 8, at 11:30 am, Chertoff will address the impact of information security on today's society and how cybersecurity will continue to be a key area of focus for the Department of Homeland Security in the coming years.

"Michael Chertoff's addition to the Conference agenda will give audience members an insider's view into the critical role information security plays in society, the implications for consumers and what we as citizens can expect in the years to come," said Sandra Toms LaPedis, area vice president and general manager of RSA Conference. "RSA Conference is proud to offer attendees access to diverse educational content and provide insight into the impact of information security across the board - from individuals to businesses and government agencies."

On Feb 15, 2005, Judge Michael Chertoff was sworn in as the second secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Chertoff formerly served as judge for the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals. Secretary Chertoff was previously confirmed by the Senate to serve in the Bush Administration as assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice. As assistant attorney general, he helped trace the Sept 11 terrorist attacks to the Al Qaeda network and worked to increase information sharing within the FBI and with state and local officials.

Before joining the Bush administration, Chertoff was a partner in the law firm of Latham and Watkins. From 1994 to 1996, he served as Special Counsel for the US Senate Whitewater Committee. Prior to that, Chertoff spent more than a decade as a federal prosecutor, including service as US Attorney for the District of New Jersey, First Assistant US attorney for the District of New Jersey, and Assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York. As US attorney, Chertoff investigated and prosecuted several significant cases of political corruption, organised crime and corporate fraud.
