Home Office approval for SpeedLaser

Laser Atlanta : 24 July, 2009  (New Product)
Laser Atlanta's traffic speed enforcement system has achieved UK Home Office type approval after rigorous and lengthy testing
The United Kingdom's Home Office has granted the latest generation of Laser Atlanta's SpeedLaser approval for law enforcement use throughout the country, effective immediately. The approval includes recently heightened testing requirements that were not required for earlier models.

Home Office approval, often requiring years to complete, entails vigorous testing to ensure that detection and evidence devices meet high standards of accuracy and reliability. Home Office approval guarantees that citations issued with approved equipment legitimately stand up in court. Otherwise, violators can contest citations, making unapproved devices useless.

"Official use of Laser Atlanta's equipment further substantiates the trusted name our devices have gained across the globe," said Laser Atlanta CEO James Kelly. "Exceeding the Home Office's newest high standards not only confirms our confidence in Laser Atlanta's products, but provides government institutions around the globe objective evidence of the SpeedLaser's capabilities."

An independent laboratory conducted 34 different tests measuring the performance of the SpeedLaser under conditions far more extreme than one would encounter during everyday use. Although allowed a 1.0km/h margin of error, the SpeedLaser performed well within this limit—even when subjected to extreme temperatures, direct and indirect electrostatic discharges, and radiation. Also, the SpeedLaser produced measurements well within standards of vehicles moving at 47 different speed intervals up to 182 mph (293 kph) on the Papenburg test track.

"With a commitment to assist law enforcement efforts worldwide, Laser Atlanta continually implements new, innovative solutions to meet the needs of officers. We actively maintain our leadership in the industry by continually manufacturing equipment with the highest standards of accuracy, usability, and quality," Mr. Kelly said.

Having again passed the strenuous testing of the Home Office, law enforcement professionals across the world can use the SpeedLaser as well as other Laser Atlanta products with the highest confidence.

This announcement follows United States Navy approval for use of Laser Atlanta's UNREP distance measurement systems on their ships under the new naval doctrine NTTP 4-01.4, approved by the Chief of Naval Operations.
