High Speed Number Plate Recognition System Certified for UK Market

ELSAG North America : 27 October, 2010  (Company News)
The MPH-900 ANPR system from ELSAG North America has passed a certification program for use as a traffic enforcement system in the United Kingdom
ELSAG North America has announced that they have passed all of the requirements and certifications to bring ELSAG's State of the Art Automatic Digital Number Plate Recognition (A NPR) technology, the Mobile Plate Hunter, MPH-900, to the United Kingdom market. Companies that produce electrical products to law enforcement vehicles are required to get an e-mark certification in order to prevent potentially dangerous equipment from being installed. In addition, ELSAG's fixed and Mobile camera systems are now compatible with the National UK Police ANPR back office using web service integration, which makes interoperability vastly more efficient.

The most significant stride that ELSAG made during the certification process was minimization of electromagnetic radiation. All electronic equipment emits some level of electromagnetic radiation, but products carrying the e-mark have been thoroughly tested to prove that these radiated emissions are below a certain threshold, and are therefore not significant enough to interfere with the vehicle's electronics. Ultimately, these process developments will help to make all of ELSAG's products better and more efficient.

"ELSAG is committed to offering its digital cameras to the UK law enforcement market," said Mark Windover, president and CEO of ELSAG. "As part of this continued commitment we are pleased to announce that we have submitted to and passed all of the tests with flying colours which will help us to also better serve our existing customer base."

ELSAG North America's MPH-900 system has been instrumental in the conviction of murderers, locating missing people, in the apprehension of sex offenders violating parole, recuperating unpaid taxes and recovering stolen vehicles. Currently, deployed in all 50 US states and soon to be across the UK, the MPH-900 is capable of reading 1,800 plates per minute.
