High speed IP networking available for Leeds

Metronet : 21 November, 2008  (New Product)
Metronet strikes out from Manchester and Liverpool into Leeds offering its high availability IP network services for CCTV, bus lane enforcement and other applications for public sector applications
Having reached profitability in its first two cities - Manchester and Liverpool - Metronet has announced the availability of high-speed Internet and IP circuits into Leeds, which it intends to target towards Local Authority and Police bodies.

Metronet has announced that its principal Leeds wireless base station is now open for business and capable of delivering city-wide communications services that offer fibre equivalent quality of service at a fraction of the price normally associated with dedicated leased circuits from BT and other legacy network operators.

In addition to price, Metronet claims significant advantages over BT and other legacy network operators in that it is able to deliver services within five days of order (traditional circuits typically take weeks and months to deploy) and the Company commits to a 99.95% Service Level Agreement.

In Manchester, Metronet works closely with Manchester City Council, Trafford City Council and The Greater Manchester Police provisioning circuits for CCTV, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and Bus Lane Enforcement cameras. Before the arrival of Metronet, the only option was fibre, which is comparatively expensive, complex to install and, once in place, fixed for the term of a circuit contract. In contrast, Metronet circuits are redeployed once cameras have served their purpose.

Another application for which the Company is an increasingly popular choice is Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, where the low cost of circuits and complete independence of Metronet from third party network operators make it an ideal solution.

Several Housing Associations including Mosscare and Northwards Housing use Metronet services as a cost effective means of supporting mission critical voice, video and data applications.

Commenting on the expansion, Elliott Mueller, CEO, said, The Company's track record in Liverpool and Manchester is second to none with Metronet now widely acknowledged as the regional leader in value for money communications services with an unparalleled Service Level Agreement. I hope that public sector authorities in Leeds will engage positively with Metronet to learn how they can save money."

In entering Leeds, Metronet plans to retain its local focus with the establishment of a local team dedicated to delivering services and support that specifically reflect local needs.

Metronet claims that its move into Leeds will also reinforce its strategy of building City-wide networks with what it describes as 'fibre in the air'. With more than 75% of the UK's Gigabit wireless links registered to Metronet, the Company has unmatched expertise in a technology that allows it to develop ultra high-speed Metropolitan networks at a fraction of the cost of cabled network alternatives: a key element of ensuring that it continues its aggressive price/performance model.

"We are well aware," continued Mueller, "of the extensive public sector investment in fibre-optic cable networks spanning the City; however, given the flexibility, availability and cost-effectiveness of Metronet, we also believe that there will be significant demand for Metronet circuits to reach points beyond the fibre-reach and for use within disaster recovery strategies."
