High security locks for Malaysian police

Pickersgill-Kaye : 04 November, 2008  (Application Story)
Cell doors in Malaysian police stations to be equipped with high security, heavy duty custodial door locks from Pickersgill-Kaye
With news of its expertise growing worldwide, Leeds based engineering company Pickersgill-Kaye has won several orders to supply high security cell door locks to police stations in Malaysia.

And the company says that although quantities are small initially, it is well placed to win significant new business over the coming years as the Malaysian government plans to build up to 80 new police stations in an ongoing programme of development.

This latest success, secured against competition from a number of international companies, has helped boost Pickersgill-Kaye's order book which shows an impressive £1million of export orders achieved this year.

Pickersgill-Kaye, which also supplies the global rail industry, diversified its product range several years ago and now uses over 150 years of lock making expertise to design, manufacture and supply locks to the custodial locking sector. It has already achieved significant success in the UK and its reputation for excellence is now growing overseas as well.

The company's sales manager Harry Griffiths said: 'Locks from several companies were considered for this project and had to be formally assessed by the Malaysian authorities. Quite simply the Kaye lock was selected after careful consideration as it was the best available to meet the challenging conditions it will be used in. This is the second year of a five year development programme in Malaysia and we are confident that we will continue to win business throughout this period. We have further orders for 50 locks which will be dispatched soon, and are already in discussions for additional orders through into next year.'

He added: 'There is potential to secure orders in other countries in the region and we are currently in discussions with police and prison authorities in Europe and the Middle East who have expressed an interest in our custodial locking products as our reputation for quality, safety and service continues to grow. We hope to build on this year's success in 2009 and beyond.'

The Kaye Class 1 cell lock is a heavy duty lock which has met the rigorous test criteria set out by the internationally respected SS317: Specification for locks for custodial doors, which has established its operational reliability, durability, security and resistance to willful damage. It features a heavy duty, solid steel body and interchangeable 8 lever inner locking unit as well as an anti-ligature design external handle assembly.
