High growth forecast in DDoS prevention market

Infonetics Research : 18 July, 2013  (New Product)
Infonetics Research is predicting double digit growth figures in the market for prevention of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks
High growth forecast in DDoS prevention market

Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its DDoS Prevention Appliances report, which tracks distributed denial of service (DDoS) vendors and analyzes DDoS appliances built to protect enterprises and carriers.

"DDoS prevention appliances are the first line of defence against brute-force attacks like those we saw aimed at U.S. financial institutions last September, and most service providers and large enterprises are investing heavily in them," notes Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research. "With the number, size and coverage of DDoS attacks on the rise, we expect revenue for DDoS prevention solutions to grow in the healthy double digits through 2014."

Wilson adds: "Many vendors are reporting sharp growth in direct sales to enterprises, even though conventional wisdom says that large enterprise customers are looking at cloud-based solutions for DDoS mitigation. There are many enterprise environments where data simply cannot leave privately-owned networks and data centers to be scrubbed in the cloud, mostly for compliance reasons."

* Global DDoS prevention appliance revenue grew 30% in 2012, to $275 million
* The data centre segment is now the largest market for DDoS mitigation solutions, surpassing the carrier transport segment
* DDoS prevention for mobile networks will see strong growth, with a 25% CAGR from 2012 to 2017, thanks to the transition to IP and data, massive increases in capacity, and a new role as a juicy and highly visible target for attacks
* The top 2 vendors in the DDoS prevention appliance market are Arbor Networks and Radware
* With its acquisition of Webscreen, Juniper has stepped into the DDoS market, joining other established networking/security players (including F5 and Fortinet) looking to siphon business from market leader Arbor

Infonetics' biannual DDoS prevention report provides market size, vendor market share, forecasts through 2017, analysis and trends for DDoS prevention appliances by units, revenue and deployment location (data centers, government networks, carrier transport and mobile networks). Vendors tracked: Andrisoft, Arbor Networks, Corero, F5, Fortinet, GenieNRM, Huawei, Juniper, Narus, Radware, RioRey and others.

* Latest Infonetics Security research brief:
* Skyrocketing SMS/MMS security gateway market to grow at least 9-fold by 2017
* Network upgrades forcing enterprises to buy faster firewalls
* New network security solutions will stimulate spending, shift vendor standings
* Vendor share shakeups expected in content security market in 2013
* Virtual security appliance market doubling by 2017
* Mobile security client market forecast to hit $2.9 billion by 2017
* Enterprise data center security buyers open to upstart vendors
