Government 2.0 needs Security Overhaul

Authenware : 21 January, 2010  (Application Story)
Steering Committee to Discuss Security Issues Surrounding Public Sector Internet Networking
For Government 2.0 to operate effectively, the entire system must undergo a security upgrade, said Authenware's president and COO Tom Helou, who was invited to share commentary on the security of cyberspace. Such remarks were the theme for Helou's speech at today's FreeBalance International Steering Committee (FISC) conference in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada - an annual gathering of elected leaders focused on sustainable public financial management.

"Our recent past has defined a new worldview where technology exists as a necessity, not a luxury," said Helou. "The changes endured are not part of the past, however, but instead a marker in the evolution of global advancement. And while I would be pleased to report the growing pains of past expansions have subsided, these pains are in fact a primary focus of today's security challenges and innovation opportunities. Google's recent actions towards China serve as a stark reminder of such developmental obstacles which severely impede upon working relationships between businesses, between sectors, between foreign entities."

During the three-day FISC conference, world leaders, decision makers and entrepreneurs engage in a vigorous dialogue regarding government modernization across all levels of the public sector. While contemporary technologies are critical to the continued development and transparency of federal entities, Helou illuminated the vital network security issues that must be addressed in order to lock national databases and protect intellectual property - critical elements businesses, citizens, and government bodies require.
