Google acquisition adds weight to GreenBorder research efforts.

Tier-3 : 05 June, 2007  (Technical Article)
Development of security product which takes a different approach to malware protection will receive a boost from Google ownership.
Tier-3 has welcomed the news that Google has acquired GreenBorder, the company behind the Windows security software GreenBorder Pro.

GreenBorder Pro is designed to protect against malware invasions and Internet attacks using the relatively unique approach of changing the operating environment using Virtualisation and modified user permissions.

'Google's acquisition of GreenBorder will give its technology a much higher profile in the marketplace, so raising public awareness that there is more to IT security than anti-virus and digital signature analysis based applications,' said Geoff Sweeney, Tier-3's CTO.

'Our own Huntsman technology also employs a unique approach to the IT security paradigm. Huntsman uses behavioural analysis to detect anything unusual happening on the host computer and/or network, and takes appropriate action to protect the organisation,' he said.

'This means that Huntsman can detect IT security threats that would otherwise be missed by `regular' IT security software. Like GreenBorder Pro, Huntsman allows companies to take a multi-vectored approach to their security needs. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the IT security industry reacts to this acquisition,' he added.
