Global health threat leads to increase in remote working security issues

ISEEU Global : 16 June, 2009  (Technical Article)
ISEEU Global has delivered a warning to companies to improve VPN security to enable secure remote working in the event of a crisis
A warning that an increase in remote working through standard VPN software could leave businesses unknowingly open to data security threats has been issued by Phil Bullivant, Director of Global Accessibility and Collaboration solutions producer, ISEEU Global.

The warning comes as public and private sector organisations prepare themselves for the possible effects to business of a winter swine flu pandemic.

Mr Bullivant commented: "The threat of pandemic will see many businesses offering remote working. Total shut down in an economic crisis is not viable and companies will see remote working as the answer to keeping business afloat.

"The problem with standard VPN solutions lies in the actual transfer of data for remote working. This transfer opens up sensitive information to corruption and viruses.

"With most standard VPN software, data is moved and cached onto the end user's device. As over half of all business data is stored on laptops and other devices in homes, office sites and in transit, the threat of loss, theft or corruption is a concern to businesses, both in public and private sectors. Data is also vulnerable as it transfers through standard systems, with unregulated and varying levels of security protection available."

In response to such concerns, ISEEU Global have recently launched the Global Accessibility and Collaboration solution to provide a totally secure data access, transfer and data sharing solution.

Unlike typical VPN solutions, ISEEU Global secure technology does not allow two-way open access, nor does it 'move' data around; meaning data stays within the IT systems control and the end-user has real-time data viewing and without restrictions on the file type or size for data transfer.

The technology means users can not only access and transfer sensitive information, but can also virtually meet without risk of security breaches; something which often only takes place in an unsecured environment via internet based products.
