FTA demonstrates driver hours compliance with digital tachograph.

Freight Transport Association : 02 October, 2007  (Technical Article)
The Freight Transport Association has a range of products to enable drivers and operators to become compliant with new UK drivers hours regulations and digital tachograph system.
Tachograph analysis, vehicle maintenance systems and the new EU Driver CPC will are being featured on the Freight Transport Association stand at Coach and Bus Live 2007.

The introduction of the digital tachograph last year has resulted in the provision of a new range of products and services designed to support and assist drivers and operators in achieving compliance with drivers' hours regulations and in the appropriate analysis processes. FTA will be demonstrating its new product range and its ability to read from all data streams likely to be increasingly popular in the future.

The Driver CPC will be launched for PSV drivers in 2008, a year ahead of lorry drivers. The FTA training department is currently working in conjunction with the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) and Go Skills to introduce industry leading modules and courses.

VOSA has now launched its Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS) as a means of more effectively utilising its enforcement resources. The new scheme provides each licence holder with a score relating to their legal compliance and VOSA will use the score to assess the level of enforcement checks which they will choose to impose on individual companies. As such, achieving the best possible score is important to all operators. FTA is providing a service specifically designed to manage the OCRS issue and full details will be available at Coach and Bus Live.

FTA's Vehicle Inspection Service is now over 40 years old and some 14 per cent of inspections are carried out on buses and coaches. The FTA client list includes Transport for London, National Express, First Group, Bus Eireann and Stagecoach. FTA is intending to continue and expand on this work in 2008 and beyond.

FTA personnel in the specific areas of vehicle inspection, tachograph and other services will be in attendance at Coach and Bus Live 2007.
