Free trial of EpiForce VM available

Apani : 05 September, 2008  (New Product)
Software for protecting both physical and virtual networks now available as a free download from Apani
Apani has announced that EpiForce VM is now available as a virtual appliance free trial. EpiForce VM is the industry's first software-based solution that secures corporate networks, containing both physical and virtual machines, from a single platform. The trial is available for download from the Apani website or at the VMware website.

EpiForce VM is part of Apani's comprehensive security software product family and provides enterprises the ability to adopt a single security solution that will protect mixed data centres. From legacy systems to contemporary platforms and now virtualised environments, Apani's EpiForce product line is the silver bullet for enterprise IT departments looking to simplify security enforcement and move away from a silo approach to protecting the inside of the corporate network.

"Even with the incredible benefits of server virtualisation, data centres will always maintain a mix of physical and virtual machines. It's a reality that can render a silo, or point-product approach, to virtual security ineffective," said Ryan Malone, vice president of marketing and business development. "EpiForce VM is purpose-built for the reality of a mixed data centre and provides a robust solution to secure physical and virtual machines from a single management console."

The EpiForce VM virtual appliance free trial is a fully functioning version of EpiForce VM designed to install and run as a VMware VI3 appliance. The trial version includes two virtual machines (VMs) with agents pre-installed and license keys for up to 10 agents that can be installed on any physical or virtual Windows or Red Hat Linux platform. A complete video tutorial and training guide is included to help security administrators to configure and test EpiForce VM in their own environment.

"With EpiForce VM we have addressed an expressed need for a single solution that is easy to use and cost-effective to implement and manage," added Malone. "This free trial gives users the ability to evaluate, at their own pace, the benefits of a software-based approach over their traditional hardware-based solution and over point-products that only operate on a single platform."

Apani EpiForce VM is a unique software-based alternative to security appliances that operate only in a virtual environment and to internal network firewalls and VLANs used for physical network segmentation within the corporate network. The concept behind EpiForce VM is to enable a single platform that isolates and secures both virtual and physical servers, endpoints and business-critical data into logical security zones, regardless of their platform or physical location on the network. Communications between these zones is strictly controlled by authentication of all machine-to-machine traffic and selective encryption based on policy.

EpiForce VM is based on the EpiForce platform v2.5 and initially supports VMware ESX Server 3.0 and 3.5 and uses on-demand policy distribution to offer enterprises the ability to manage and deploy policy to thousands of virtual or physical servers and endpoints with no impact to the network, application or user. EpiForce VM offers a centralised management console that enables a consolidated view to manage all EpiForce VM-protected machines - whether they are virtual or physical, without regard to their physical location on the network. Persistent security policy management allows administrators to utilise VMotion or Virtual Center to migrate EpiForce VM-protected virtual machines from one physical host to another with no disruption of security policy, minimising unplanned downtime and maximising operational flexibility.

Apani will be at VM08, the UK's first Virtualisation expo event at Earls Court in London, 1-2 October, and is taking registrations for the virtual appliance free trial version of EpiForce VM.
