Free security awareness tools available from (ISC)2

ISC Squared : 08 October, 2008  (Company News)
Information Security organisation launches Cyber Exchange, a free resource for IT security professionals to exchange materials.
(ISC)2 is inviting businesses and consumers to download free security awareness materials that have been provided by some of the organisation's 60,000 certified members worldwide.

The materials are designed to help general audiences understand security threats and how to deal with them, and are available on the new Cyber Exchange, an online security awareness resource centre launched today by (ISC)2.

"As a global not-for-profit organisation, it is (ISC)2's responsibility to not only develop information security professionals in all parts of the world, but also to promote best secure computing practices by everyone," said John Colley, CISSP, managing director EMEA for (ISC)2. "The materials in the Cyber Exchange, provided by our certified experts, are designed to educate end-users and teach citizens how to better protect themselves."

The Cyber Exchange was developed to house free security awareness tools from around the world, designed to be used by any organisation or individual that wishes to promote online safety at work or within their community. It can also serve as a support tool for private and public sector organisations implementing cyber security awareness training programs after highly publicised data losses caused, in some cases, by employees.

"The recently formed Information Security Awareness Forum, comprising members of around two dozen professional industry bodies, including the ISSA-UK and (ISC)2, is committed to the effective promotion of good security practice through the activities of its members and partners," said Dr David King, chair of the Information Security Awareness Forum. "The Cyber Exchange will help to plug an important gap for many organisations who may not have the resources or wherewithal to develop materials for their own awareness and education campaigns. The ISAF warmly welcomes the provision of free materials for this purpose."

The Cyber Exchange features a user-friendly layout and navigation, easy search capability, and detailed description of each submission, including file name, file type, file size, and run time if the file is a video. Visitors can also rate each entry to alert other visitors to its quality. (ISC)2 members are regularly encouraged to upload materials in a variety of formats - such as posters, flyers, brochures, presentations and games - and those that address a variety of topics - including, but not limited to, networking security, identity theft, Internet privacy, disaster recovery, emerging security threats, mobile security, software development and secure Website design.
