FortiGuard Security Services Demonstration On IPV6 Day

Fortinet : 09 March, 2011  (Company News)
Fortinet is taking part in IPv6 day to demonstrate the capabilities of the FortiGuard Unified Threat Management system in protecting networks from intrusion, spam and viruses as well as providing web content filtering in the new internet protocol version

Fortinet will participate in World IPv6 Day on June 8, 2011, which is a 24-hour “test flight” of IPv6-enabled Web sites sponsored by the Internet Society (ISOC). On this day, Fortinet will also offer its FortiGuard Security Services over IPv6, which will allow companies using its antivirus, intrusion prevention (IPS), Web content filtering and anti-spam services to test their update connectivity over IPv6.

World IPv6 Day was established to encourage global organisations across a variety of industries to prepare their service for IPv6 and ensure a successful transition from IPv4. IPv6 drastically changes the supply of IP addresses from 4 billion IPv4 addresses to 340 trillion IPv6 addresses (2128 addresses), which is paramount given the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)’s recent announcement that IPv4 addresses will no longer be available. IPv6 also promises enhancement over IPv4 including better security and improved addressing, routing efficiency and quality of service.

Fortinet offers unparalleled network security to both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Support for IPv4 and IPv6 on FortiGate® multi-threat security appliances has been tested and verified by third-party test labs appointed by the U.S. government, and has been provided in many large enterprises, service providers and government agencies. With a robust global security threat research team in-house, Fortinet also provides regular updates to its security platforms via its FortiGuard Security Services, delivering real-time protection for any corporation or government agency migrating to an IPv6 network.

The Fortinet FortiGate consolidated security platforms offer impressive performance, flexibility, and security from remote offices to large enterprises, service providers, and carriers. FortiGate platforms have supported IPv6 since 2007, and achieved the US Department of Defense (DoD) IPv6 product certification conducted by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). FortiGate appliances have been listed on the DoD’s Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (UC APL) for IPv6 since 2008.

The FortiOS operating system running on all FortiGate appliances has also received the IPv6 Ready Logo Program from the IPv6 Forum, a worldwide consortium that provides technical guidance for the deployment of IPv6 technology. The FortiOS operating system has successfully fulfilled all the requirements for IPv6 Phase-2 Core Support as a router product validating the interoperability of FortiGate appliances with other IPv6 products. It also integrates with Fortinet’s FortiAnalyzer and FortiManager systems, providing increased network protection with centralised management, advanced provisioning, reporting, logging, alerts and event correlation for Fortinet's security products.

FortiOS also features a dual stack architecture that recognises both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic. Dual stack support is critical to the implementation of IPv6 networks, as it will not be possible to operate an IPv6 network without interoperating with IPv4. FortiOS has the following features:

* Complete Content Protection for IPv6 traffic including antivirus, intrusion prevention (IPS), Web content filtering, application control, DLP and email filtering

* Dynamic routing protocol for IPv6: RIPng, OSPFv3 and BGP+

* IPv6 tunnel over IPv4 and IPv4 tunnel over IPv6

* Dual protocol stack support

* Firewall policies

* Packet and network sniffing

* Bi-directional traffic shaping

* NAT/Route and Transparent mode

"Global communication networks have begun a major transition period from IPv4 to IPv6 that will last for years," said Michael Xie, founder, CTO and vice president of engineering for Fortinet. "Fortinet's participation in World IPv6 Day and our IPv6 strategy and security solutions further reflect our commitment to companies and government agencies who require additional security as they move to an IPv6-based network."
