Follow-on US Government order for mobile X-Ray screening systems

American Science And Engineering : 08 October, 2008  (Application Story)
US Government to be supplied with Z Backscatter Vans from American Science and Engineering for bolstering efforts in combating drugs and terrorism
American Science and Engineering has received a $4.4 million order from the US Government for multiple Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) a mobile X-ray screening system. The contract includes ZBV operator training, service, and warranty.

"This order follows the successful deployment of multiple ZBVs at border crossings in support of the US Government's counter-drug and anti-terrorism programs," said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. "We're working very closely with government officials to meet their detection and performance requirements utilizing our proprietary Z Backscatter technology for port and border security. The ZBV offers a comprehensive inspection solution to quickly and effectively detect border threats such as drugs, weapons, contraband and stowaways."

A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is the Number One selling non-intrusive mobile inspection system on the market. ZBV is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
