Florida police to gain Identity Theft insight at LifeLock seminar

LifeLock : 23 October, 2009  (Company News)
Naples and Orlando in Florida to witness events staged by LifeLock to provide a deeper understanding of Identity Theft to local FBI and Police
With identity theft complaints hitting a 5-year high and Florida recording an above average incidence rate according to Javelin Strategy & Research, LifeLock and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) are sponsoring forthcoming Identity Theft Summits in Naples, FL on November 17 and in Orlando, FL on November 18. The Summits will provide law enforcement officials with the latest information on identity theft trends, new scams, and investigative methods.

Part of an ongoing nationwide series of free, interactive training sessions offered through a partnership between LifeLock and FBI-LEEDA, the November 17 Summit will be hosted by Sheriff Kevin Rambosk and the Collier County Sheriff's Office at the Naples Professional Development Center. The November 18 Summit will be hosted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and will be held at the Orlando Regional Office.

Led by a Florida police veteran, Wayne Ivey will lead the Summits and will share investigative techniques and the latest trends of the crime. Ivey has specialized in identity theft investigations since 1993 and his extensive background in identity theft policing has helped him to develop best practices in investigating and prosecuting identity theft cases. As an expert in the field, he has been called on to testify before the Florida Legislature as well as the United States Congress.

As Javelin Strategy & Research's "2009 Identity Fraud Survey Report" revealed, identity thieves are working faster to exploit victims. The incidence of thieves using stolen information within a week of thefts has more than doubled from 33% to 71% over the past three years. So rapid response is at a premium.

"We're proud to partner with law enforcement to help protect our communities," said LifeLock CEO Todd Davis. "As identity theft continues to grow, law enforcement officials need as many tools as possible to fight these crimes and we know that with the information presented and shared at these summits, law enforcement are better positioned with solid investigative techniques and a series of best practices to combat this crime on the front lines."

Law enforcement officers attending the Summits will learn about local identity theft laws and ways to assist crime victims. In addition, attendees will be given the opportunity to have their contact information entered into a cross-jurisdictional database to promote networking about identity theft crimes with other law enforcement departments.

The LifeLock and FBI-LEEDA Identity Theft Summit in Naples, FL will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on November 17, at the Professional Development Center located at 615 3rd Ave. S, Naples FL 34102.

The LifeLock and FBI-LEEDA Identity Theft Summit in Orlando, FL will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on November 18 at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Regional Office located at 500 West Robinson Street, Orlando, FL 32801.
