FIPS compliance for MXP Codec

Tandberg Data : 01 July, 2008  (New Product)
Security validation from US government for video conference codec from Tandberg
Tandberg has announced that the Tandberg MXP Codec has been awarded Federal Information Processing Standards Publications (FIPS) 140-2 Validation - a validation requirement for any cryptographic product used in a US government agency network.

The FIPS 140-2 standard is a joint effort by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), under the Canadian government. The Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP), headed by NIST, provides module and algorithm testing for FIPS 140-2, which applies to Federal agencies using validated cryptographic modules to protect sensitive government data in computer and telecommunication systems. FIPS 140-2 provides stringent third-party assurance of security claims on any product containing cryptography that may be purchased by a government agency.

"As government agencies work to control system use and access to sensitive information, secure communication tools rank high on their list of technology requirements," said Joel Brunson, president, Tandberg Federal. "By achieving FIPS validation across our entire MXP product line, we are demonstrating our continued commitment to providing customers with robust network security features and adequate levels for privacy."

Mandated by law in the US and strictly enforced in Canada, the FIPS 140-2 standard is under review by ISO to become an international standard. The standard continues to gain worldwide recognition as an important benchmark for third-party validations of encryption products of all kinds. FIPS 140-2 validation of the Tandberg MXP Codec will provide users with a high degree of security, assurance and dependability.

In order to expedite the FIPS 140-2 validation process, Tandberg partnered with Corsec Security, a consulting firm with over ten years of validation experience.

"We are proud to have had a role in helping Tandberg seamlessly navigate through product validation, quickly and efficiently, to achieve the gold standard for encryption security," said Matt Appler, chief executive officer, Corsec Security. "Achieving FIPS 140-2 compliance truly sets Tandberg apart from likeminded video conferencing providers and guarantees government customers the security they require for day-to-day operations."

Designed for customised integrations, the Tandberg MXP Codec offers expandability for future applications. The integrator package incorporates the power and functionality of the Tandberg MXP - enabling users to join up to six video and five audio sites with optional embedded MultiSite functionality. Leveraging down-speeding and Internet packet loss ratio (IPLR), the Tandberg MXP Codec also protects against network interruptions in point-to-point and multipoint calls.
