Fingerprint recognition access for construction site.

UK Biometrics International : 26 June, 2007  (Application Story)
Bovis Lend Lease to install biometric fingerprint access control and time and attendance system at construction site in the North East of England.
One of the worlds leading project management and construction companies, Bovis Lend Lease, is the first to adopt a 'fingerprint entry' biometric access and time & attendance system to control access to a North East development site.
The system, from UK Biometrics has been installed to monitor worker and sub contractor attendance at the £25 million Hexham General Hospital extension site in Northumberland.
With several hundred workers per day clocking on and off, many of them sub contractor personnel; Bovis Lend Lease needs to know who is on site, when they arrive for work and when they leave.

Workers and sub contractors register their fingerprint once, and thereafter simply place their finger on a scanner to clock on and off. No fingerprints are stored on the system which recognises minute points, and converts these into data.

The biometric system recognises workers who have completed the necessary Health & Safety induction program. Unregistered visitors must report to site security for access.

In the event of an accident, management know exactly who is on site and are able to advise emergency services if personnel were not accounted for.

UK Biometrics has installed fingerprint entry units at the main security checkpoint and site access portal for the Hexham General Hospital site. The units are networked to an onsite PC which captures and stores accurate data for management reports.

This is the first UK Biometrics site installation for Bovis Lend Lease and one of the very first construction site installations of biometric technology.

Bovis Lend Lease Commercial Manager Kevin Rutherford said;

"Our first impressions of the system were very positive. We find that the system enables staff to enter and exit the site quickly and the use of fingerprint technology ensures that we do not have staff signed in incorrectly. The system is easier to use than a traditional card entry system. With cards the operatives would often forget or lose the cards which meant a manual override of the system to sign them in. Eliminating the use of cards is cost effective as they are expensive to supply and replace. With the fingerprint the operative always has a means to sign in. The system fulfilled our needs for a fast, economic entry control system. UK Biometrics was enthusiastic in their approach and offered true bespoke system suited to our needs".

UK Biometrics Sales Director Steve Barnard said;

"We are delighted that a Bovis Lend Lease is an early adopter of our technology and we see great potential in the construction sector. The combined benefits of accurate time & attendance records with health & safety compliance mean we are currently talking to developers and construction companies throughout the UK".

UK Biometrics Ltd is a leading supplier of fingerprint entry systems, membership systems and time & attendance systems with offices in Newcastle upon Tyne, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Swansea and Bournemouth.

Bovis Lend Lease is one of the world's leading project management and construction companies with a presence in over 40 countries, spearheaded by regional hubs in the UK, Australia and the US.
