Filtering for safe searching

Network Box : 07 August, 2008  (New Product)
Content filtering added to Network Box Unified Threat Management product to enable security assessment of sites returned from Google searches
Network Box has announced the beta release of its web content filtering technology to support Google Safe Search and Google Safe Browsing. The new functionality will be added to its range of unified threat management (UTM) products to allow businesses to easily implement protection against Internet threats, and prevent sites and web pages with inappropriate content from appearing in search engine results.

Network Box will provide its customers with an additional content filtering engine that uses Google's Safe Browsing system to check URL requests against Google's constantly updated blacklist of suspected phishing and malware infested web pages.

These web filter categories will be in addition to Network Box's existing anti-virus and anti-phishing solution which uses Kaspersky and Clam AV to inspect pages for malicious content.

The Google Safe Search option allows users to filter search results and eliminate sites and web pages that contain inappropriate sites, such as those featuring adult content.

It will now be possible to configure the Network Box so that it implements the filter on the Google search engine searches and enables safe searching. This feature will compliment the full SurfControl database each Network Box currently deploys to protect users from inappropriate content.

Commenting on the new features, Simon Heron, Internet Security Analyst, Network Box says: "While Google Safe Search and Safe Browsing help to protect users from Internet threats and offensive content, the web filters need to be set up individually for each PC on the network which is time consuming. The simplest way to do this is at the Internet Gateway and hence can be easily applied across the network. Offering our customers this feature as part of our managed security service means that they don't have to spend time doing this."
