Federal certification for biometric flash drive
Kanguru Solutions has announced its latest product to receive Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS 140-2) Certification; the Kanguru Bio AES; a highly secure, encrypted, biometric flash drive.

FIPS 140-2, a rigorous federal security accreditation program completed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, sets the standard for encryption algorithms intended for use in protecting sensitive government information.

The Kanguru Bio AES is the second secure Kanguru product to obtain FIPS 140-2 certification and the first of Kanguru's products to offer FIPS certification on a biometric device.

"The FIPS Certification of the Kanguru Bio AES and the recent release of our remote management application reinforce Kanguru's position as a leader in secure storage solutions," said Don Brown, CEO of Kanguru Solutions. "We take pride in being able to meet the needs of our government and enterprise customers, whether it's FIPS certification, drive customization or remote management."

Since 2001 the Federal Government has encouraged US Government agencies dealing with national security systems and information to adopt products that offer Government certified AES protection. According to the Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 197, AES is a "symmetric block cipher" that encrypts data into an illegible form called ciphertext making it impossible for outsiders to reach the data.

"By obtaining FIPS Certification we've proven that the Kanguru Bio AES is secure enough for storing sensitive data, a key issue facing our security focused customers in the government, military, financial and healthcare markets," said Nate Cote, Vice President of Product Management at Kanguru Solutions.

In addition to achieving FIPS 140-2 Certification, the Kanguru Bio AES also meets Sarbanes Oxley and HIPAA standards. The Kanguru Bio AES, offers 256-bit AES encryption and is available in capacities ranging from 1GB to 8GB.

A division of Interactive Media Corporation, Kanguru Solutions manufactures high quality, secure and portable computer storage peripherals that have provided consumers with secure back-up solutions for more than a decade. Interactive Media Corp. was established in Massachusetts in 1992.
