Extreme fingerprint sensors for rugged laptops

Validity Sensors : 05 June, 2009  (Application Story)
General Dynamics have chosen high durability biometric fingerprint sensors from Validity for use on the GD8000 rugged laptop for harsh environments
Validity Sensors, a biometric sensor company specializing in convenient, secure and reliable fingerprint authentication solutions, has announced that its fingerprint sensors have been integrated into General Dynamics Itronix' fully rugged GD8000 notebook.

Validity's ToughSwipe fingerprint sensors have been tested for IP54 and can withstand water splashing and dust. The fingerprint sensors are based on Validity's LiveFlex technology, which provides superior durability and industry-leading impact resistance. The fingerprint sensing area is made of durable plastic and is completely decoupled from the silicon drive chip. The separation of the sensing area and the silicon chip makes them more resilient, resulting in impact resistant, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) resistant and waterproof sensors.

"The integration of Validity's fingerprint sensors in General Dynamics' waterproof Notebook PCs is another validation of the strength and durability of our fingerprint sensors," said Mariel van Tatenhove, vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Validity. "Validity's ToughSwipe fingerprint sensors work in extreme environments without compromising on the accuracy of the device."

"The GD8000 notebook caters to law enforcement agencies and military personnel who require a high degree of ruggedness, reliability and accuracy," said Patrick White, vice president of Strategic Marketing for General Dynamics Itronix. "The quality of the fingerprint sensor is a key component to this rugged notebook's ease of use."

Validity has been showcasing the durability of its fingerprint sensors for the past year via its highly successful "Hit It. Wet It. Zap It." product demonstrations.
