European centre for voice services to open

Nuance Communications : 30 September, 2009  (Company News)
Nuance is currently recruiting for positions at its European research and development centre for speech recognition
Nuance Communications will open an Open Voice Services European Centre of Excellence to further meet the needs of global mobile operators. The Centre will serve as a house of innovation for global research and development with technical teams focused on all aspects of the research and development of Nuance Voicemail-to-Text, Nuance Voice Control, Open Voice Search, Mobile Messaging, and voice services for the Connected Car. While Nuance has long had a strong presence in the European speech market, the Company has experienced significant demand for its rapidly emerging suite of services that target free-form, unstructured speech input. This has created an opportunity for a cutting-edge research area in speech recognition today. The underlying capabilities are amazing, converting voicemail into text automatically, and allowing people and professionals to dictate messages, search the Web, and more. Open voice services are now also being integrated into automobiles, unleashing a new wave of innovative solutions that reduce driver distractions. And, mobile operators around the world are demanding open voice services in a wide variety of languages. With all this in mind, Nuance is focused on creating an environment where innovation in a variety of voice services can flourish. "Nuance's commitment to innovation and the wealth of speech technology talent throughout the region inspires Nuance to invest in launching a formal Centre of European Excellence, focused on open voice services," said Vlad Sejnoha, Chief Speech Scientist, Nuance. "In addition to our current internal efforts and additional innovation investments recently announced with IBM, we expect this new Centre of Excellence to ensure Nuance's voice services team achieves a level of innovation second to none in the industry." In preparation for the expansion of its world class team with the region's talented mobile software professionals, Nuance will host UK "Career Days" in the Marlow and Cambridge areas the week of October 12, 2009. Interviews are by invitation only. Positions will include Project Managers, Operations Engineers, Quality Assurance, Speech Engineers, Acoustic Modelling and Language Modelling Researchers and Language Development Experts.
