EU cyber crime plan may not be enough

Network Box : 02 December, 2008  (Technical Article)
Network Box comments on the 5 year plan against cyber-crime drawn up by the EU and suggests regular reviews with wider scope outside the EU
Simon Heron, Internet Security Analyst, Network Box, comments on the EU's five-year action plan to tackle cyber-crime

"While any initiative to fight cyber-crime is a good thing in principle, the fact is that seven out of the top 10 sources of all Internet threats originate from outside the EU. The major culprits are China, Korea and the US; with Russia expected to increase.

"Cyber crime is international, not localised to one area of the world. We need an international approach and improved collaboration between governments across the world, not just within the EU.

The world of cyber-crime changes by the minute. I hope that the EU's five-year plan will be reviewed often enough for it to change to stay a step ahead of cyber criminals."
