eSoft Sues RuleSpace for Stealing SiteFilter Content Filtering Database

ESoft : 26 February, 2010  (Company News)
Allegations made against RuleSpace for the misappropriation of database technology used as the basis for filtering internet content
eSoft has filed a lawsuit in the District Court for the City and County of Broomfield, Colorado against RuleSpace, a Beaverton web filtering company, for misappropriation of eSoft's intellectual property.

The lawsuit alleges that RuleSpace stole intellectual property associated with eSoft's proprietary and industry-leading SiteFilter database and categorisation technology. eSoft's proprietary SiteFilter technology offers eSoft's OEM partners and customers numerous critical advantages in the areas of active web coverage, accuracy, security and real-time website categorisation and identification of malicious websites.

eSoft alleges in its Complaint that RuleSpace secretly gained access to the SiteFilter technology, including eSoft's confidential SiteFilter database and eSoft's proprietary methods for real-time website categorisation.

"eSoft is the fastest-growing provider of secure web filtering for the OEM marketplace due to the innovative and proprietary SiteFilter technology," said Jeff Finn, eSoft's chief executive officer. "A number of eSoft's OEM wins have come at RuleSpace's expense and we believe RuleSpace intends to use the unlawful theft of eSoft's intellectual property to enhance the RuleSpace offering and reduce further customer and market losses."

'eSoft has invested substantial time and resources in developing the industry's leading secure web filtering technology,' said Finn. "We will take all appropriate measures to protect our intellectual property and to preserve eSoft's strong competitive advantage in this market.'
