Equipment Installed In Slovakia For Citizen e-ID System

The Slovakian government has installed the Datacard MX6000 card issuance systems and the Datacard Syntera customization suite software for its highly secure national eIDs, driving licences, border crossing cards, vehicle registration cards and resident permits.

The Slovakian government issues approximately 520,000 cards annually.  Working with Hewlett Packard in Slovakia – who is the primary contract holder on this project – Datacard Group was able to propose a product configuration that meets the Slovakian government specifications for enhanced security features, as well as the criteria for speed and improved quality.

Upgrading to the new MX6000 systems, as well as installing the Syntera software provides several benefits to the government.  This includes accountability in the issuance process, more secure and higher-quality laser engraving, efficient smart card personalization and vision verification, which has greatly expedited the recording of expired or confiscated identity documents. They also improve efficiency with automatic registration of returned cards.

“The Slovakian Ministry of Interior has been a dedicated customer of Datacard Group since 2006, and the new system we proposed was an upgrade from previous Datacard high-volume solutions that they already had in place,” said Russell St John, senior vice president of global marketing for Datacard Group.  “The new e-national IDs, driving licences and other documents are now measurably more secure and offer greater functionality.”

While the MX6000 systems are now used for the primary issuance of all national eID cards, the systems also offer optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities that are used to automate the process of recording when expired or invalid documents are returned for destruction.

In addition to the card programs, the Slovakian government has also been using the Datacard PB6500 passport issuance systems since 2008 for personalization and issuance of its e-passports.  The commonality between all the platforms simplifies key activities, including operator training, maintenance, service and support.

Every day, Datacard solutions personalize and deliver more than 10 million cards, 5 million smart cards, and issue hundreds of thousands of passports worldwide.  The company offers a Secure Issuance Anywhere platform, which offers the broadest portfolio of solutions that include best-in-class personalization, identity management software, supplies and service that have been implemented in more than 400 government programs in over 100 countries.
